What Is Creativity, Really? (Hint: It’s Already in You)

What Is Creativity, Really? (Hint: It’s Already in You)

When you hear the word creativity, what comes to mind?
Finger paints and glue sticks? Maybe a trendy Pinterest board or someone making wedding invites from scratch with a Cricut?

Yeah, that’s cute—but it’s only part of the picture.

Here’s the truth, Mama:
Creativity isn’t just about crafts—it’s about using your imagination to create. Period.
And yes, that includes art. But it also includes solutions, systems, vibes, meals, outfits, businesses, and a whole life that actually feels good to live in.

The Lie You Tell Yourself: “I’m Just Not Creative”

I hear it all the time—especially from moms.
"I used to be creative…"
"I wish I had time to be creative…"
"I’m not really creative like you…"

Let’s shut that down today.

If you can imagine, you can create.
And if you can create, you’re creative.
So yeah—you already are. Even if life, school, or your 52-tab mental load made you forget.

My Definition: Creativity Is Using Your Imagination to Create

That’s it. Clean and simple.
It doesn’t need a canvas or calligraphy. It doesn’t even have to look “pretty.”
Creativity is taking what’s in your head or heart and making something real out of it.

  • Rearranging your living room to feel more peaceful? Creative.
  • Coming up with bedtime hacks for your kids? Creative.
  • Designing your brand visuals for your biz? Super creative.
  • Writing a post that speaks straight to someone’s soul? Mama, that’s next-level.

It’s not what you make—it’s that you made it.

Why We Got Creativity Twisted

Let’s be real—most of us were raised with the belief that creativity lived in the "arts and crafts" section. Something you outgrow when it comes time to get serious, acquire a job, and pay your bills.

If you didn't win the school art competition or couldn't play an instrument, you were classified as "not creative."

Whew… the lie detector test determined: THAT was a lie.

Truth is, we are all born creative.
We were merely trained to favor logic, order, and remaining within the box.
Especially as women and mothers, we've been persuaded that our creativity should be used to benefit others (hello school projects, birthday cakes, matching outfits), not ourselves.

However, creativity is a God-given muscle that, if not used for its intended purpose, becomes buried beneath the busyness.

You’re Already Creative (Yes, YOU)

Here’s some proof—have you ever:

  • Made something from scratch with no blueprint?
  • Solved a problem in a way that felt like divine inspiration?
  • Matched your outfit to your mood and the vibe of the room?
  • Decorated a room, planned a party, or thrown together a dinner like it was a cooking show?

Guess what? That’s creativity.
It’s already in you—it just needs to be claimed.

Can You have Creativity in Business? Absolutely.

Here’s where it gets juicy—creativity isn’t just for play. It’s for profit, too.

You can create a brand, offer coaching, or make items based on your own ideas.
You may transform a spark into a strategy.
Turning a hobby into a business.
An idea into income.

Whether you're creating content, implementing systems, branding your business, or interacting with your audience - creativity is your secret weapon.

It’s what makes your business yours, and not a carbon copy of everyone else’s.

Creativity in business looks like:

  • Designing a customer experience that feels like a warm hug
  • Naming your offers in a way that makes people say “Ooooh that’s cute”
  • Pivoting when things don’t go as planned—because you can dream up Plan B on the fly
  • Building digital products, courses, or content from your own life lessons

You don’t need to wait for a business degree.
You need to trust that your imagination is already an asset.

Creativity Is Spiritual, too

Let us not forget that God is the original creator.
And you?  You are formed in His likeness.

That is, creativity is built into your DNA.
Do you get nudges to make something, say something, or attempt something new?  That isn't a distraction—it's divine.
It's how God works through you.

So, when you say yes to your creativity, you are agreeing to co-create with Him.
 In your home.
 In your business.
 In your calling.

When You Reclaim Your Creative Spark…

You start to feel like yourself again.
You stop settling for just surviving—and start designing a life you actually love.
You speak up more, stretch more, risk more.
You give yourself permission to be seen.

You move from:

“I wish I could…”
to
“Look at me, I did that.”

And that energy? It ripples into everything—your confidence, your parenting, your work, your purpose.

So...

If you’ve been waiting for someone to say, “You’re creative,” here it is:
You are. You always were. Now it’s time to act like it.

🟡 Take 5 minutes today to do something just because you imagined it.
🟢 Reorganize your space.
🔵 Sketch out that idea that’s been whispering to you.
🟣 Write a post that sounds like you for once.
🔴 Or just daydream on purpose again.

You don’t need permission. You are the permission.
